Comic Con is coming back to Africa thanks to the efforts of ReedPOP (the great people behind PAX) and there is so much to do and see. If you haven’t had a reason to visit South Africa yet, then you’ll want to use the second annual Comic Con Africa as an excuse to see what the southern African nation is all about. This year, Comic Con Africa will take place at Gallagher Convention Centre. When you go, you’ll want to see what Johannesburg is all about. However, before you go sight-seeing, let’s take a look at why you should be excited about Comic Con Africa 2019.
The Stars In Attendance
“The prejudices people feel about each other disappear when they get to know each other,” was a quote by Captain Kirk in Star Trek: The Original Series. If you thought you’d seen the last of William Shatner, then think again, because he will be in attendance at Comic Con Africa 2019. Also in attendance will be the talented Troy Baker, the voice of almost every cool action hero video game or anime character you know. Troy Baker voices Booker DeWitt in BioShock Infinite, Jin Kariya in Bleach, as many others. Nolan North will also be in attendance, the voice of Cayde-6 and Ghost from Destiny 2, the original Nathan Drake from the earlier Uncharted games, David in The Last of Us, and much more! Look forward to meeting your favorite Star Trek captain as well as your favorite voice talents in anime and video games at Comic Con Africa 2019.
What Else Does Comic-Con Africa 2019 Offer?
While star-power, cosplay, and panels are expected, there are a couple of other things you can do there that you probably have done before. It’s been 25 years since the show “Friends” aired and now the memorable couch from the television show will make an appearance for the first time in Africa for you to sit on a piece of history. When you’re roaming the venue of Comic Con Africa be sure to stop by to meet your favorite comic book authors, artists, and illustrators. It’s also the perfect opportunity to meet your favorite cosplayers like Leon Chiro. When you’re not meeting the people behind the comic books, anime, and other geek culture products, then you can always look over their artist alley and merchandise tables to pick up once-in-a-lifetime art and swag.
Johannesburg, South Africa
Comic Con Africa 2019 couldn’t come to a more beautiful city in Africa. While the main pull to Johannesburg will be the Comic-Con coming up, there’s so much in the city to take in between cosplaying, buying art, and attending panels. If you don’t live in, or have never been to Africa at all, then Johannesburg is the place to start and Comic Con Africa 2019 is the perfect excuse to go. Johannesburg has a culture all on its own like you’ve never seen before. When you’re not cosplaying with your buddies or drowning yourself in merchandise you can head out to the streets of Johannesburg to take in the culture and lifestyle that this populous South African city has to offer.
This is only the second time that Comic Con has come to Africa. You definitely don’t want to miss out on this experience of a lifetime. Going to Africa just to attend Comic Con and being a part of a culture you may not have experienced before is something you can go home and brag to your friends about.
